About Me

‘I would recommend Dave not only as a practitioner within a school based music environment but also as a creative and enthusiastic teacher in a wider context.’

Patrick Baxter, Head of Music at Haggerston School, LB of Hackney

Dave Vigay

I have been playing the drum kit for over 20 years. After graduating from university I started to focus my playing and teaching skills, really honing them upon completion of my studies at the Institute for Contemporary Music Performance. I have played in numerous projects stylistically ranging from Jazz to Balkan Beats, Rock to Funk and in various venues across London, the UK and abroad. Projects have taken me to Glastonbury, among other festivals, and tours of France and Spain. The diversity of projects I’ve been involved in range from playing in function bands, including for author Mark Billingham’s 50th birthday party, to theatre work, as drummer and musical director in a play co-produced by The National Theatre.

I am a committed teacher with a strong desire to pass on to others the expression and creativity drumming affords me. I strongly believe in learning correct technique early in the process but always in a musical context so its application can be fun, exciting and rewarding.

I have helped students learn and develop their technique, enhance their rhythmical knowledge, improve their timekeeping, learn to play different songs and styles, read drum notation, improvise creatively, develop good, consistent sound and better understand their role and associated expectations as a drummer and performer.

I currently teach privately as well as being a peripatetic teacher in a secondary school in the London Borough of Hackney.
